Fascinating Facts of Plants
Science is the search for truth and knowledge,
Botany is one of the most exciting subject to explore about plants
Living things are sensitive to changes in their surrounding.
Different creatures react in different ways to changes for their growth and survival.
This blog post highlights on such changes eg. response to stimuli.
The degree of responding stimuli varies with each organism.
An organism's reaction to stimuli is called response.
Sunflower showing response to stimuli:
Sun is the ultimate source of light and heat energy.
Sunflowers follow the sun and change accordingly due to their biological clocks known as internal circadian clock.
They face east in the morning and follow the sun during the day. The stem of the plant turns towards sun
While facing the east the flower gets heat faster and attracts pollinating insects as bees like warm flowers !
At the time of sunset flowers droops or shrinks.
As per the researchers when plants were tracking sun, east side of stem grow rapidly and in the night the west side grow faster.
